This year was a different Mother's Day for several reasons. A year has passed since Grandma passed and it will always be a bittersweet holiday for my family. Last year, we spent the day at my mom's house with our immediate family and it was a pretty somber get together. Grandma passed away that morning. Kate and I decided we needed to change things up a little this year. I encouraged her to host the gathering if she felt up to it. And she did. She and Brett have been slowly getting their house remodeling done. The new paint, kitchen beadboard, and new landscaping looked really good. I was really impressed with the landscaping. It looked professional!
We planned the meal and split up the dishes among the two of us and Megan. So weird to think we are all adults and bringing the food to the parties now! It was actually really neat. Megan took over the green bean casserole, I did potatoes and dessert, and Kate did the salad, bread and dessert. We all brought steaks and the guys grilled them for us. We were blessed to have a perfect day to spend with each other. The sky was blue, the sun came out for a little and it was warm enough to go outside. Caleb and Abby played with bubbles and ran around. Megan shared with us her new adventure in cosmetology school. I am so happy that she has found something that she enjoys and is good at. College was just not for her. The dinner was really yummy. I used a new recipe for my dessert. It was similar to creme brulee with rasberries. It looked pretty good and I was excited for Mom to try it since she loves berries. Kate's dog thought it looked pretty good too! He ate half of it. Fortunately, there was enough for Mom and a few of us to have some. The consensus was that I should make it again soon! Mother's Day at Kate's was a success and I am thankful we were all able to enjoy each other's company.
