My actual birthday and its woes.

So, Sunday we noticed a few red bumps on Caleb's arms. They looked like little bug bites and since we had been outside so much, I didn't think too much of it. Well, by the time he went to bed later that night he had bumps on both legs too. Monday morning he woke up and was covered in what looked like hives. I called and made an appt with the pedi for the afternoon. Fortunately, he didn't have any other symptoms and was acting normal. The pedi said it was classic hives and that it appeared he had an allergic reaction to something. I racked my brain but could not come up with anything new that he had been exposed to. She told me to give him Benadryl every 6 hours around the clock and to come back in on Thursday. I kind of hope she then orders allergy testing so we can maybe figure out the culprit. Poor Caleb looked like a red spotted leopard! The hives got worse during the rest of the day.
I was scheduled to work that evening. Yes on my birthday. On my way to work, my mom called and gave me some upsetting news. My neice, Abby, was bit by her other grandparent's dog and was in surgery to repair the damage. I was pretty upset and worried about Abby, Kate, and Brett. What a scary experience for a 2.5 year old! The dog was a family pet, a boxer. He was put down shortly after it happened. Just an all around upsetting situation. Abby's surgery went well. She has a total of 30 or so stitches on her chin/cheek and a few more by her cheek/eye. She had no nerve damage and is back with her parents at her grandparent's house in KY. I am so thankful she is ok. Apparently, the anesthesia pretty much erased any memory of the situation. She doesn't even remember being in the hospital. So, needless to say, by the time I got to work, I was upset. My friend said I should call the supervisor and just go home. It didn't take much persuasion. I went home and spent the evening on the phone with my mom, my sister and my good friend Steph.
