Yesterday was Caleb's first birthday party. Blake and I spent Friday night cleaning the house, baking cakes and getting ready. I have to say Caleb's farm cake turned out super cute! We used his Little People farm animals and Blake created a barn and silo. He even added hay bales, a pond, and a mud puddle for the little pig!
I was a little nervous about all the people and having enough food. We had 24 people. Mostly family. We served shredded chicken sandwiches, veggies with dip, a fruit bowl, and taco dip. Caleb was pretty social and let all of his grandparents and great-grandparents hold him.
After eating, Caleb opened his presents. Abby helped. He received some great toys, books, clothes, a wagon, and some money! He seemed to really enjoy it all. He kept trying to get the toys out of their boxes.
Then it was cake time! I stripped Caleb down to his diaper and put him in his highchair. We sang Happy Birthday to him and then let him go with his very own "smash cake." It had a #1 candle and his little sheep figure. He just poked it at first, but then got down to business smashing it and even eating some! It was hilarious and everyone laughed which only excited him even more.
The party winded down and Caleb said goodbye to all of his guests. His guests were Nana, Papi, Trevell, Grandpa, Ruth Ann, Mimi, Ma Ma, Pa Pa, Great-Grandpa, Gigi, Aunt Kate, Cousin Abby, Aunt Megan and Clint, Uncle Luke and Danielle, Megan and Brian Eversole, Katie and Doug Cook, and Kris Korty.
Katie, Doug and Kris stayed later to visit some more. Caleb was worn out from the excitement and took an 1.5 hour nap! He woke up in time to spend the evening with Drew, Ashley, and Brayden. They came down to spend the night since they were not able to make the party. Brayden and Caleb were so cute playing together with Caleb's new swingset from Mommy and Daddy. They just kept looking at each other and smiling. It makes me excited for Caleb to have a sibling some day. Friends and cousins will have to do for a little while though!
Overall, the party was great and I am relieved it went so well. I never really had a chance to cry over my baby turning one. Of course, his actual birthday is Tuesday so I have some time to reminisce.
